Jr. High Football

The first picture is before the game. Notice his number. He picked number 12 for Colt McCoy. His favorite football player. The bottom picture is the first play of the game. Mason is behind number 24 getting ready to throw the football.

Today was Mason's very first Jr. high football game. I don't know who was more nervous, me or him. Mason is starting quarter back for the C team. We played a bunch of kids and friends from when I taught at Williams and we all sat together. When we went to sit down we looked at each other and asked if we should sit together or not. We decided we could sit together until high school football. That is when the real rivalry begins. LOL

I am so proud of Mason. He did such a good job. He passed the ball at least 5 times and the receivers did great and caught them. The first quarter we had the ball the entire time, but didn't score. We only have 7 minute quarters. The second half they had it for about half the time and then we had it and we were about on the 20 when time expired. The third quarter started and we held them again and had just gotten the ball back when it began to thunder and lightning, so they delayed the game. They ended up calling the game. We were very disappointed. The boys did great! I am looking forward for next Monday.

Sports

Video is of Mason's game. He is the one that threw the ball. Unfortunately, his receiver didn't catch it.

This weekend we were back into our crazy sports schedule. It started with Tanner's first baseball scrimmage on Friday night. This is the first season for kid pitch. I am excited because it is a little more exciting than coach pitch, but the kids have a lot to learn. Tanner played catcher and he did a great job. He even threw a guy out at third that was stealing from second. We didn't get to finish the game because an incredible lightening store blew in. I took my camera to take pictures of Tanner. I thought I was so prepared. I even changed batteries before we left. Then we I started to take pictures I realized I forgot my memory card.

Mason played his first game of football season. They did a great job. He played quarterback the entire game. We won 8-0. The other team got the ball within inches of the goal line and our defense stopped them. One of our players got hurt. Looks like he knocked his shoulder out of place.

The Katy Tigers were playing Northshore last night. Mason really wanted to go, but Tanner had baseball practice around the same time. We decided Mason could go with a friend. This was the first time I would be dropping him off at something without an adult. I was a little worried, but I figured every time I take them to the game and stay they run off and I don't see them until the game is over anyway. I got a call from Mason at half time asking me to come and pick them up. When I got there they said it was so crowded they could hardly move and just wanted to go home. We ended up watching the game at home together as a family. It was nice.

Today Tanner has a fundraising car wash. This doesn't seem to exciting. Mason has a football beginning of the season swim party. I need to get busy cleaning my house before the craziness starts again.

Football Begins

This is our last season of Katy Youth Football. Tanner has decided to not play anymore. I remember when Mason was 4 years old and we would drive past Rhoads stadium on our way to daycare. He would say "I am going to play football when I am 5. I am going to play there." I don't really know where he learned about football. Brad doesn't ever watch football on TV and we weren't going to anyone"s games, but some how he new what he wanted to do. When he was 5 I signed him up and he played flag football. It was all fun and exciting back then. This is our 7th season. That is hard to believe. It isn't new anymore, but I guess it is still exciting. After all this football, Mason told me on the way to his first practice last night that this will be the last year he plays football. He said in jr high he needs to just focus on baseball and basketball. I think once he gets to jr. high he will change his mind. I think he is a little nervous about it already. Here is to a great season! Go Bucs!!!!!

You win some, you lose some

Saturday was the opening day for the boys football. Both boys play on the Buccaneers. The youth football organization the boys are with keeps the teams together for their entire youth football career. Tanner is one of the original 4 players that started playing when they were 5 years old in flag football. His coach let them be the captains for this game. That means they got to go to the center of the field for the coin toss. Unfortuantly that was the highlight of his game. His team lost 25 - 0. I am not sure what happened they are a better team than that. Hopefully they will do better next week.

Mason's team won 39-6. They scored three touchdowns in the first quarter with only 3 offensive plays. It was exciting at first, but it gets a little boring when there isn't much competition. Next week should be another blowout. Enjoy the photos.

It's started......

Football is back. Tanner had his first practice last night, they both have practice tonight, Thursday, and Saturday (same time different location). We begin our juggling act. Mason has always had a really good football experience, all sports for that matter. The coaches are there for what is best for the team. They don't play a lot of "dad ball". Tanner, bless his heart, hasn't had the most positive experiences. I already have a bad taste in my mouth after one practice. He has the same coach he had last year. This coach said at the end of the season he wanted to play Tanner as quarterback this year. Tanner was very excited about this. Then last night at practice he stated he is letting the kids try out for new positions, which is a good thing. He then named three kids and their positions. His son and one other coaches son were two of the three kids named. I just hope he really means what he says and gives everyone a chance. I just want Tanner to have a good time and feel successful. I was hoping he wanted to play baseball this fall instead of football. It is less stressful.
